Update #: 3
Currently: Waiting for the rain to stop so I can walk home.
Other Far West songs I've heard in the Far East include: numerous Elton John songs, plenty of bad 80's music, a little Amy Grant and one Badly Drawn Boy song. There have been some decent songs played in between but for the most part I still can't figure out how/why some of the Western songs make it over here. Other odd western imports include the movies - yesterday I was flipping through the channels and I came across a movie with Dennis Rodman in it. On the very next channel was a movie with Shaq. Strangely, no David Hasselhof cameos to be found.
The sound levels in most places, similar to the visual stimuli - are a little overwhelming. On buses, in internet cafes, and just in general the volume level seems to always be set on high. Still working on being able to tune it out - although my current plan of attack is just to make my own noise.
Other noise makers include...garbage trucks. They sound just like the ice cream man - which is charming at first, but then you quickly realize that there are a lot more garbage trucks than ice cream men, and that garbage trucks drive slower and stop more frequently.
