Kottke-esque style, now only $14.95/month

Well, after about 5 hours I'm almost done converting my site to Typepad. (You may notice it's more Kottke-esque in its look and feel, i.e.: dotted lines, link format, font size. Thanks Typepad for making the K-style a standard feature, now how bout some of his traffic) The transition went fairly well, I still don't know jack about Movable Type and yet I was able to do about 90% of the things I wanted to do. Lemme know what you think.

Misc. notes:
Future updates will include getting my old background and header images back. Also want to fix the spacing in the category headings. Need to add a link archive (there's way more than 20 links listed in the OPML, trust me) etc, etc, etc...want to add comments to the links, play with the syndication, etc...

Going Global

You may have noticed that I added a traffic tracker at the bottom of this blog. The tool allows me to get information on the last 20 visitors to the site, for example where they're from and the name of their ISP. So I was plesantly suprised to find that I have had a few international visitors to AK.com.

Check out this list of 20 visitors from a week ago (and please ignore the Dallas ISP listed about 10 out of the 20 times, I'm the one behind those...)

Lebanon

Austria

Getting in the know

Ever since I've learned this, I've seen it all over the place. I'm not sure if that makes me a script kiddy or a lamer...

elite -> eleet -> e1337 -> 1337

I most recently came across 1337 in an article talking about the latest releases of the Mac OS's. Although the author used "133+". Which begs the question, is that a typo or yet another mutation?

How funny was that?

I asked a couple of friends today if they could rank in order, from (1) I'm mildly amused to (6) I find that absolutely hilarious, the following expressions which I've always been kind of uncertain about. Here are the options:

heee
lol
ha ha
heh
:)
hardy har har

And here are the results:
1. :)
2. ha ha
3. heh
4. heee
5. lol

Alternatives to the above were:
"heeee thud" or alternately "omg kmn bbq"
Both of which have a value of :)

Miscellaneous comments:
"Note that there is significant variability in the wild, however -- "lol"'s easy and pleasant typing sensation causes it to often be used in circumstances where it is not strictly warranted. Also, the "heee" can be extended or even shortened as appropriate, giving it a range that really covers the entire spectrum. But, be warned -- "heee" is also perhaps the most likely to be used in an ironic way (especially when a hyperbolic number of "e"s are appended); the subtle cues implying thus must be picked up by the reader.

Ranking of other modifiers, such as "omg" and "bbq", is left as an exercise for the reader." (thanks G)

Also, turns out nobody uses Hardy Har Har.

The Origin of the :-)

I wasn't there to see Kirk Penny

After arriving a few minutes into the first quarter I noticed that Dwyane Wade wasn't on the court. After looking on the bench, I couldn't find him there either. Turns out he was hiding at the end of the bench wearing a suit, not a jersey...Mavs won a pretty boring game and alas, I didn't meet up with any other MU followers. I did, however, get a chance to thank Wade for last year after the game had ended and he was heading into the locker room.

Should be an interesting year for the Eagles and the last as part of C-USA.

The cheese stands alone

Off to go watch the Mavs play the Miami Heat. I'll be the guy in the very non-Mavs' colors 'gold' Marquette t-shirt hoping to find other Dwyane Wade faithful.
