Unplugged for a few days

Unplugged for a few days

Been unable to get online for the past few days, my bad. Still refusing to get a legit internet connection, and let's face it - I can't call tech support when my pirated connection goes down...Not too much has happened. Got my first piece of blog related email. Thanks Ashley! (aka: Mexico 1910 band member) That's now a grand total of two people outside of my friends and family that know about the site, better watchout Kottke, Anil, and Cory!

15 mins of fame in the blogosphere

Thanks Anil, you made my day.

Which is actually more like 7 days (or however long your linker decides to display the linkee). In case you don't recognize the purple haze on the righthand side, Anil Dash was kind enough to link to my site today. Thanks dude, I'm waiting for the flood of traffic any day now.

Holy shit, I'm famous! Okay,

Holy shit, I'm famous!

Okay, maybe I'm over reacting a little bit here, but check this out (warning - extremely time sensitive link). If you'll browse down towards the bottom of the page, under the "Some Froms" header you'll see my name as the #2 item listed (again - time sensitive). Mostly, I am jazzed about nothing, because I'm guessing not too many people see this part of his blog, but still Dash is the man when it comes to blogging and now I can steal a little of his thunder.

Also, looks like Google re-cached my site, which is always good, and added my link archives, which is even gooder. Now there's a (small) chance that my links can drive traffic to my site, instead of just my blog content. For example, if you were to go to Google and search for "Brew City Representin", you'd see my site as the #7 option on the first page. Pretty sweet, huh?

So that's why they call

So that's why they call it a free throw

It's always a good thing to shoot 98% from the free throw line. It's an even better thing to make 98% of 49(!) free throw attempts. I don't understand why teams keep forgetting this lesson: good free throw shooting wins games (especially playoff games where margins of victory are smaller). Imagine getting spotted 10 pts before every game...this is essentially what happens when the Mavs play the Spurs.

One more point about free throws: San Antonio's Bruce Bowen led the league in 3pt shooting, yet he averages about 40% from the stripe. He is the first player I've seen who can shoot three pointers accurately and yet be absolutely terrible at FT's. My theory is that if Bruce Bowen were smarter (or dumber than a rock) his FT% would skyrocket. FT's are a lot like fieldgoals in football, if you think about it too long, you'll most likely fuck up. When he's shooting three's, he's reacting. When he's shooting free throws, he's thinking. If he were smarter, he would be able to concentrate better and focus more on making the shot. Or if he were dumber, he wouldn't even be aware of the consequences of the missed shot and shoot them without hesitation, either of which would help raise his FT%. My recommendation for Bowen - be more like Sebastian Janikowski, because clearly he's not doing any thinking when he makes all of his field goals.

Starbucks that is. Since my pirated wireless internet connection wasn't working in my apartment, I headed out to Starbucks instead. So far so good. Super strong connection, and they have plenty of power outlets for my laptop. Not looking forward to the .10 cents/minute charge once my free day is over with. Oh well. Hopefully by then my free connection will be back up.

Did ya hear? Webber's out for the playoffs! Go Mavs.

Birds of Prey

I was walking home from work the other day and about 100 yards away from my apartment I felt something brush my hair....Odd. Looking up I saw that it was a blackbird that had buzzed the tower. Whatever, I continued walking and about ten steps later another bird tried to perform a similar maneuver. Starting to get a little concered, I picked up my pace for the remaining 80 yards. Then before I knew it, bird number one made another attempt. This time coming at me head on. At this point, I put my hands on my head and ran the remaining distince into my apartment. (cause I'm tough like that)

Pushing the previous day's encounter out of my mind I started to walk into work the next morning. Before I even looked both ways to cross the street, out of the corner of my eye I saw the same blackbird coming at me AGAIN! Luckily he only came at me once and nobody was harmed it the attempt. But by now, the bird had successfullly intimidated me (again, cause I'm tough) and coming home the same day I seriously considered talking a different route. After much deliberation I decided against it and made it successfully unscathed back to my apartment.

Adam 1 - Birds 0

Wish me luck for tomorrow.

Also - does anyone have a clue as to what could be causing such aggression from these flying beasts? Is it the shampoo I use, does my haircut look like a nest, or is Hitchcock making a reality TV series and forgot to tell everyone? Just wondering.
